Big Ten play continues on Wednesday night for Indiana with an away game at Illinois in women’s college volleyball.
On Wednesday night, Illinois will welcome Indiana to Champaign for a Big Ten matchup at Huff Hall. The Hoosiers will look to break a two-match losing streak and move up in the standings where they are currently sitting in a fifth place tie with UCLA. The team is 2-4 in Big Ten play and 9-7 overall following its most recent loss to No. 3 in Penn State in four sets. The Hoosiers picked up a 25-22 win in the first set, but the Nittany Lions woke up after getting caught sleeping on the job to win the second set 25-22. Indiana fought back hard in the third, but ultimately fell 32-30 before dropping the fourth 25-22. Candela Alonso-Corcelles led the offense with a team-high 18 kills, while senior setter Camryn Haworth finished one kill away from her fourth career triple-double (36 assists, 11 digs, 9 kills).

The Fighting Illini have been on a hot streak recently and have won three straight matches to improve to 11-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, putting them in a tie for fourth place in the conference standings. Last week, the team traveled to Michigan and won a pair of matches with Michigan and Michigan State. Illinois earned a straight set win over the Wolverines, but the Spartans pushed the Illini to a fifth set before they settled the score. Raina Terry tied her season best with a team-high 25 kills to pace the offense. Averie Hernandez and Laynie Smith also finished in double digits with 10 kills apiece. Christina Martinez Mundo led the defense with 15 digs, while Brooke Mosher and Terry lended a hand with 11 digs each. Terry’s double-double marked her fourth of the season and 22nd in her career.
With both teams seemingly picking up their level of play in recent weeks, Wednesday night’s match should be a competitive one. The last time these two squads met was last season and they saw each other twice. In the regular season matchup, Indiana earned a four-set win, but Illinois took the second meeting in a five-set battle.
