Howard and Delaware State will meet on Sunday in the MEAC Tournament Final for a chance to play in the NCAA Women’s College Volleyball Tournament.
Third-seeded Delaware State will have some home court advantage on Sunday, as the team takes on top-seeded Howard in the MEAC Tournament Championship at Memorial Hall. The Bison opened tournament play against eighth-seeded South Carolina State, winning in straight sets, before taking on fifth-seeded Maryland Eastern Shore in the semifinals, winning in four sets.
The offense was led by Rya McKinnon, who finished the game with a team-high 12 kills on 42 swings. McKinnon received support from Leah Reeves, who served up 37 assists at setter. Dami Awojobi held down the backcourt with a team-leading 16 digs, while Claire Simpson and Reeves joined her in double figures with 13 and 12 digs, respectively, for Reeves to earn a double-double in the semifinal win.

The Hornets took on sixth-seeded North Carolina Central University in the first round of tournament play and earned a four-set victory to move onto the semifinals. There, the team met second-seeded Coppin State and made quick work of the Eagles with a straightset victory to earn a championship berth. Gerren Tomlin finished the match with a team-high 12 kills, while Valeria Otero joined her in double digits with 10 kills on the night. Otero earned a double-double by adding 11 digs to the stat sheet. Morgan Allen led defensively with a 12-dig performance to hold off the Eagles and help her team earn the win.
Howard and Delaware State met twice already this season and the Bison won both matches in straight sets. While the odds are heavily in Howard’s favor, with tournament play, stranger things have happened than a three-seed beating the top seed, so tune in to see if Delaware State can pull off the upset.
