Auburn and Oklahoma will meet in their penultimate regular season match on Sunday as postseason play looms in the near distance.
On Sunday afternoon, Oklahoma will host Auburn at McCasland Field House in the penultimate match of regular season play. While the teams are both further down in the SEC standings, wins in Oklahoma’s final two matches could bump them up several spots for a chance to make it into postseason play. Auburn is currently in eighth place in the conference standings with an overall record of 14-11 and a conference record of 4-10. The team has lost nine straight matches with the most recent being a four-set loss to No. 20 Florida on Wednesday at home. The Tigers’ offense was led by Madison Scheer who finished the match with 18 kills on 50 swings. She received support from Peyton Dunn who had a 36-assist match. Alexis Dacosta played strong defense and led the team with 15 digs, but it wasn’t enough to hold off a strong Gator offense.

The Sooners are just above the Tigers in the standings but are in a four-way tie with a conference record of 6-8 and an overall record of 12-10. The team will look to break a two-match losing streak after dropping its most recent match to No. 14 Texas in straight sets on Friday. The Longhorns held the Sooners to just a .167 hitting percentage which was led by Alexis Shelton’s 14-kill match. Whitney Wallace did her best to hold of Texas’ offensive onslaught and came up with 10 digs, but as the only player with double-figure digs, the team ultimately fell to the third-place Longhorns.
Auburn and Oklahoma have only met once in their histories as the Sooners just joined the SEC this season. The meeting took place in 2011 and the Sooners picked up a straight-set win in Miami.
