On Sunday afternoon, Auburn will host Alabama for the teams’ rivalry match as they look to improve upon their records this season. The Crimson Tide will look to break a three-match losing streak with a win over the Tigers. The team is currently 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the SEC after opening conference play against No. 20 Tennessee on Wednesday, pushing the game to a fifth set where the Tide eventually fell. Sophie Agee finished the game with 18 kills to lead the offense while Paris Thompson added 12 to the stat sheet for a hitting percentage of .258. Francesca Bertucci cleaned up defensively with 21 digs to keep her team in the match, but the Crimson Tide ultimately came up short.

The Tigers bring an overall record of 11-1 into Sunday’s match, as well as a five-match win streak which has them right on the cusp of breaking into the top 25. The team’s most recent match resulted in a five-set stunner against No. 12 Kentucky to move to 1-0 in SEC play. The team dropped the first two sets to the Wildcats but rallied to win the remaining three and pull off a big-time upset. Auburn looked to Madison Scheer offensively and she did not disappoint, finishing the night with 17 kills for her ninth double-digit kill match of the season. Alexis Dacosta covered a lot of ground on defense and ended the game with 18 digs to allow the Tigers to walk away with a very unexpected win.
Today’s match will mark the 92nd meeting between the two programs with Alabama holding a 52-39 edge. Auburn has won the last seven meetings with Alabama.
