Wake Forest and Florida State will meet on Thursday evening for a chance to play for an ACC tournament title in the first semifinal.
On Thursday evening, third-seeded Florida State and second-seeded Wake Forest will meet in the first semifinal of the ACC tournament as the teams look to earn a bid in the championship game to be played on Sunday. The Seminoles bring a six-game win streak into Thursday’s contest with the most recent being a 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded Notre Dame on Sunday. Marianyela Jimenez scored her second goal of the season just two minutes into the game to give the Seminoles an early lead over the Fighting Irish. The game remained a one-goal deficit until the 76th minute when Sophia Nguyen netted her first, and perhaps most important, goal of the year to make it a 2-0 game. The Fighting Irish finally got on the board in the final ten minutes, but Florida State held on for the win with the hopes of continuing the journey toward a tournament title.

As the second seed in the tournament, the Demon Deacons earned a first-round bye and will begin their tournament run on Thursday. The team brings an overall record of 12-3-2 into its semifinal game with a conference record of 7-2-1 against ACC opponents this year. Wake Forest finished regular season play on Thursday with a 3-0 victory over NC State at home. Nikayla Small scored in the first minute of the game against the Wolf Pack to give the Demon Deacons a 1-0 lead. That lead was not extended until shortly after the second half began with a goal from Emily Murphy. Hannah Johnson completed the scoring for Wake Forest in the 79th minute while Valentina Amaral kept the net clear, making one save, to earn her ninth shutout of the season.
Wake Forest and Florida State met earlier this season in conference play and the Demon Deacons won handily in a surprise 4-1 victory at home over the then-No. 6 Seminoles. Four different Wake Forest players found the back of the net in the win.
