On Thursday night, Virginia will play its final game of the season against No. 12 Virginia Tech at Thompson Field. The Cavaliers are currently in ninth place in the conference standings and will not be able to qualify for one of the six spots in the ACC tournament with their record of 4-5 in conference play and their 11-5 overall record. The team’s most recent game was played against Clemson and resulted in a narrow 1-0 victory in front of a home crowd of nearly 2,000 fans. The game nearly ended in a scoreless draw, but Lia Godfrey netted her first goal of the year with only four-and-a-half minutes left in the match to help her team earn three points toward its tally. The Hokies come into the regular season finale with a spot in third place from a conference record of 6-1-2 and an overall record of 11-3-3. With a win on Thursday night and a loss for UNC, the team has a chance to move into second place in the standings ahead of the ACC tournament which would grant the Hokies a first round bye. On Sunday, the team pulled off a huge 2-0 win over No. 7 Notre Dame on the road which helped to move Virginia Tech up to No. 12 from its previous spot at No. 19. Neither the Fighting Irish nor the Hokies were able to put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, but just nine seconds into the second half, Sarah Rosenbaum scored her first goal of the season to give Virginia Tech a 1-0 lead. Lauren Gogal also scored her first goal of the season in the 76th minute and extend the lead. The Hokies were able to hold on with six saves from Lauren Hargrove in net to earn their tenth shutout of the 2024 campaign.

When Virginia Tech and Virginia met last year during regular season play, Virginia earned a 3-0 win at home.
