Philadelphia will play host to home side Villanova and visiting DePaul on Thursday night as the two programs face each other in a Big East matchup at Higgins Soccer Complex. The Blue Demons come into Thursday’s conference contest with an overall record of 2-5-3 and a Big East record of 0-1-1 so far. The team opened conference play with a tough 3-0 loss to No. 23 Xavier but bounced back to play Butler on the road, the game resulting in a scoreless draw. While the Bulldogs challenged the Blue Demons in the first half, DePaul found another gear for the second half, outshooting Butler 9-2. Despite dominating second-half play, DePaul could not sneak one past the Butler goalkeeper and the team had to settle for the one point earned as opposed to three from a win. Elena Milam earned the shutout in net, her fourth of the season, with three saves.

The Wildcats find themselves with an even 1-1-1 record in Big East play but will look to get back to .500 overall with a win on Wednesday. The team’s most recent game ended in a tough 3-0 loss to No. 21 Xavier at home on Sunday. The scoring started early as Xavier netted its first goal just three minutes in with a long-range shot that Hannah Dickinson could not get her hands on. The Wildcats held off the Musketeers for the next 68 minutes with solid defense, but a close-range goal by Samantha Wiehe doubled the score. Tragedy struck once more with 11 minutes left to play as a penalty in the box gave Xavier its final goal on a converted penalty kick. Dickinson finished the game with and impressive nine saves in net, but head coach Samar Azem knows that the offense will need to produce in order for her team to get back on the winning side of things.
DePaul and Villanova last met during the 2023 campaign and the game resulted in a 1-0 win at home for the Blue Demons. The all-time series now stands at 10-10-1 between the two programs.
