On Sunday afternoon, Air Force will take the trip to Las Vegas to play UNLV in a Mountain West battle as the teams look to improve their positions in the standings. The Falcons are currently in fourth place with a conference record of 1-1-1 and an overall record of 5-3-2. The team picked up its first Mountain West win of the season on Thursday with a narrow 1-0 victory over Nevada on the road. The game was evenly matched, but the Falcons edged out the Wolf Pack 16-13 in shooting, putting eight shots on frame. Kendall Rippley scored the lone goal of the game in the 11th minute of play to give the team a 1-0 lead. Strong team defense paired with stellar goalkeeping from Kylie McElroy allowed Air Force to add three points to their season total.

The Rebels are sitting just above Air Force in the conference standings, tied for third with San Diego State and Boise State, with a record of 2-1 in Mountain West play and 4-6-1 overall. On Thursday night, the team hosted Colorado College, earning a 2-1 victory in front of 600 fans. The Tigers struck first, scoring just ten minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead that lasted until late in the second half. Trinity Buchanan finally scored the equalizer, her fifth goal of the season, with 13 minutes left to play after receiving service from Cadence Whitley. The game winner came in the 86th minute with Mallie Ramirez finishing a cross from Whitley to secure three points toward the team’s total in the Mountain West standings. Hanne Breur finished the game with four saves in net after seeing 14 shots from the opposing Tigers.
Despite going into today’s match with a 9-17-2 deficit in the all-time series against UNLV, Air Force has not lost a match against the Rebels since the 2016 season. In that stretch, the Falcons have gone 3-0-1 and they will look to tack on another win this afternoon.
