On Thursday night, two top 25 teams will meet in Los Angeles as No. 16 Penn State takes on No. 10 UCLA at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The Nittany Lions are currently in fourth place in the Big Ten standings behind an overall record of 11-3-2 and a conference record of 5-2-1. The team has won its last two games with the most recent being a 3-2 win over Minnesota at home on Sunday. Kaelyn Wolfe got things started for Penn State with a goal less than a minute in, but Minnesota matched that level of play. The Golden Gophers scored in the 10th minute to tie things up and the go-ahead goal went in just five minutes later. Kaitlyn McBean found the back of the net with the equalizer in the 31st minute and the teams went into the locker room all square. With only nine minutes remaining, redshirt senior Olivia Damico got her head on the ball to score the game-winner with a perfectly crossed ball from Jordan Fusco. Mackenzie Gress stayed strong in net for the final nine minutes of play and made six saves in her 90 minutes in goal.

The Bruins have been on a roll recently and have won four straight games to bring their overall record to 12-2-2 and their conference record to an undefeated 7-0-1. The team is currently at the top of the Big Ten standings along with fellow newcomer USC. Last week, UCLA traveled to take on a pair of Midwest teams, closing out the weekend with a 3-1 win over Illinois. Jayden Perry opened up the scoring in the first half while Quincy McMahon and Sofia Cook added second-half goals to earn the team it’s seventh Big Ten win. Ryan Campbell was not challenged often in goal as the Bruins outshot the Fighting Illini 17-5, but she did make one save to help her team earn the win.
This will mark the first time Penn State plays one of the new members of the conference. The teams have met a total of six times with each team winning three games. The last meeting between PSU and UCLA came on August 25, 2018, with the then-No.2 Bruins narrowly escaping University Park with a 2-1 victory.
