The Scarlet Knights got off to a strong start this season and are currently 8-1-3 overall with an undefeated record of 4-0-2 in conference play. The team’s only loss came against a surprising UMass squad early on, but since then, they have played nine games without being beaten and have only conceded two goals. In their last two games, the Scarlet Knights have played No. 1 Michigan State and No. 19 Penn State with both games resulting in 1-1 draws. Against the Nittany Lions, Rutgers was forced to play from behind after Penn State scored in the first five minutes. The game was 1-0 at halftime, but just two minutes into the second half, Shaela Bradley netted her third goal of the season to tie things up. Penn State’s offense hammered Olivia Bodmer in net with 20 shots in the match, but her career-high tying nine saves kept her team in the game and allowed them to stay undefeated in Big Ten play.
Last season saw these two teams meeting in Lincoln in the middle of the season and they battled to a 2-2 draw. All four of the goal scorers from that match have graduated leaving room for newcomers to find the back of the net in this year’s contest.
