A Big Ten battle will take place on Sunday afternoon as No. 5 Michigan State visits Happy Valley to play No. 9 Penn State.
On Sunday afternoon, both No. 9 Penn State and No. 5 Michigan State will look to stay undefeated in Big Ten play with a victory in State College. The Nittany Lions bring a three game win streak into Sunday’s contest with the most recent game being a 1-0 win over Northwestern to move to 2-0 in conference play and 8-1-1 overall. While the win added three points to the team’s Big Ten tally, only beating Northwestern by one could mean the game against Michigan State will be more challenging than originally thought. Kaitlyn MacBean netted the game winning goal, marking her tenth of the season which puts her third nationally in goal production. Amanda Poorbaugh was not challenged much in net and only had to make two saves to earn her sixth shutout of the year.

The Spartans remain undefeated this season and are on a four game win streak after their 4-1 win over Nebraska on Thursday. The team is now 7-0-2 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play. Against the Cornhuskers, Meg Hughes scored in the 21st minute to put the Spartans on the board. Nebraska evened the playing field in the 43rd minute, but Emily Mathews answered a minute later to regain the lead. Jordyn Wickes returned to the lineup for Michigan State after an injury earlier this season and she made her presence known with a goal to make it a 3-1 game. Ella Janz finished the scoring off for Sparty with an unassisted goal in the 79th minute. Kaitlyn Parks made one save in the match, but almost conceded a goal after a poor clearance left the net empty; something Penn State will surely punish her for if it happens today.
Penn State and Michigan State met last season in early October and the Nittany Lions earned a 3-1 victory in East Lansing. The Spartans will be looking for revenge on Sunday. Tune in for the action at 2 p.m. ET.
