Trinity Armstrong and No. 8 North Carolina will take the pitch against No. 6 Florida State and Taylor Huff.
The No. 8 ranked team in the nation and the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament, North Carolina, will take on the No. 6 ranked team in the country and the No. 3 seed in the tournament, Florida State, at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels ended their season 16-4 overall and 7-3 against conference teams in the ACC. They lost to the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Duke, in their last regular season game 3-2 at home. They entered the tournament matched up against the No. 12 nationally ranked Virginia Tech.
They won 2-0 on two second-half goals from Kate Faasse. She scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season. That led North Carolina on a collision course for a semifinal matchup with the top-ranked Duke. They went down early conceding a goal in the 28th minute and heading into the halftime break down 1-0. Linda Ullmark scored an unassisted goal to knot the game at 1-1 before Trinity Armstrong scored the game-winning goal to knock off the top seed and send UNC to the championship.
The Seminoles ended their season with a 13-2-3 record overall and a 7-2-1 record against ACC teams. They opened up the ACC Tournament with a matchup against No. 13 nationally ranked Notre Dame at home. They won that game 2-1 on the back of a second-minute goal from Marianyela Jimenez and a 77th-minute goal from Sophia Nguyen.
In the semifinal round, Florida State took on the No. 3 ranked Wake Forest. After a scoreless first half, Florida State got on the board first with a goal from Taylor Huff in the 53rd minute. They would go on to concede a goal in the 83rd minute to send the game to penalty kicks where Florida State pulled out the win and advanced.
