With only three regular-season games remaining, Louisville will look to pull off the upset against No. 25 Cal with the hopes of improving its position in the standings despite having been eliminated from a possibility of postseason play. Currently, the Cardinals are way out of playoff contention with a spot in 14th place in the ACC standings. The team has struggled in conference play and have a record of 1-5-1 against ACC opponents and 6-6-3 overall. Most recently, the Cardinals hosted No. 6 Stanford and held the ACC newcomer to just one goal in a 1-0 loss. Louisville almost walked away with one point, but Stanford scored in the final two seconds of play to earn the win. The Cardinal finished the game with a collective 11 shots, six of which were on frame, but Erynn Floyd came up big in net with five saves to keep the game close.

The Golden Bears will be looking to break a three game losing streak on Sunday before heading home to California for their final two games of the season. Cal brings a conference record of 3-3-1 into Sunday’s game and an overall record of 10-4-2 for a spot in ninth place in the ACC standings. The team needs to win at least two of its final three games to make it into the ACC tournament.
On Thursday, Cal traveled to South Bend to take on the No. 12 Fighting Irish and lost in a tough 5-2 defeat. The scoring opened in the 25th minute with a Notre Dame goal, but Karlie Lema evened the score just two minutes later. Notre Dame regained the lead in the 35th minute and took a 2-1 lead into the locker room. Noelle Bond-Flasza came out of halftime ready to play and scored five minutes into the second half to tie things up. The Fighting Irish rallied, however, and scored three unanswered goals to run away with the game. Kelly McManus played the majority of the game, seeing 23 shots and making six saves before Maddie Gambs came in for the final seven minutes, making one save during her time in net.
Sunday’s game will be the first match between Louisville and Cal as the Golden Bears just joined the ACC this season.
