On Sunday afternoon, both Maryland and Illinois will look to capture their first Big Ten win of the season as they go head-to-head at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Illinois. The Terrapins have struggled to find a groove this season and bring an overall record of 3-5-4 into Sunday’s contest and a Big Ten record of 0-3-1. On Thursday night, the Terps took on Northwestern, playing to a scoreless draw to earn one point toward their conference total. The Wildcats outshot the Terps 20-6 with eight shots on frame, but Liz Beardsley came up big, making eight saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

The Fighting Illini will look to break a two-game losing streak in front of their fans. The team is also 0-3-1 in conference play and holds a slight edge over the Terps overall with a record of 4-5-2. On Thursday, the Fighting Illini traveled to take on Nebraska, falling by a narrow 1-0 margin. Nebraska managed to get off a total of 26 shots to Illinois’ 10 and put 11 on frame. Izzy Lee came up with nine saves, but the one shot that snuck by her in the 58th minute made the difference. Sarah Foley led the offensive efforts with three shots but was unable to find the back of the net.
The Illini lead the Terps 4-3-1 in their all-time series which dates back to 2014. The last time these two teams met was back in 2022 and resulted in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory for Illinois.
