Utah will look to stay undefeated on Thursday night with a road win over Northwestern in women’s non-conference basketball action.
On Thursday night, Utah will have its first challenge of the season with a road game against Northwestern in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup. The Wildcats come into Thursday night’s game in search of their first win after dropping the first two games of the season to Illinois State and Lehigh.
On Sunday, the team hosted the Mountain Hawks and fell in an 85-68 defeat. The game was tied up at 17 per side after the first quarter, but Lehigh outscored Northwestern by 16 points in the second quarter. The Wildcats battled to get back in the game, but the halftime deficit was just too much to overcome. Taylor Williams finished the game with a team high 22 points, while Kyla Jones and Casey Harter joined her in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Williams also led the team on the boards with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The Utes are off to a strong start this year with a record of 2-0 so far. The team opened the season with a big 105-52 win over Southern Utah before also beating Weber State handily in an 86-46 victory on Thursday.
Against the Wildcats, the Utes absolutely dominated the game. Four players finished in double figures with Mayè Tourè turning in a 22-point performance to lead the offense. She and three of her teammates also led on the boards with five rebounds apiece. Collectively, the team shot 50 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from beyond the arc, both strong marks for this point in the season. From the free throw line, the Utes went 7-for-8 for an 87.5 percentage.
These two teams have only met once in their histories and the game dates back to the 2006-07 season when the Utes earned an 80-69 victory at home.
