It is still very early in the season, but the biggest game in women’s college basketball during the non-conference season might be here. Top-ranked South Carolina (5-0) hits the road for the second time this season to face-off with fifth-ranked UCLA (4-0) in what could be a Final Four preview. The Bruins are off to another great start led by junior Lauren Betts and a balanced attack around her dominant play in the paint. Betts is off to a National Player of the Year start through four games. The Bruins will try to ride the play of Betts to a home win over the best team in the country. Heading into this huge game the Gamecocks have won 43 straight games and 78 straight regular season games imposing their dominance under head coach Dawn Staley.

The Gamecocks have been dominant since their competitive season-opener against Michigan. In their last four games they have won by a combined 129 points allowing just 51.5 points per game.
It will take a team effort to slow down Betts who is averaging 21.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game on 72.2% shooting from the field. She has improved her production every year going from 14.9 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game on 64.3% shooting last season.
Betts has three double-doubles in four games and went for a career-high 31 points already this season. She has thrived inside the arc this season, scoring in the paint. The Gamecocks are one of the best teams in the country this season defending the paint allowing teams to shoot just 34.7% from inside the arc setting the stage for a major battle in the paint.
