Nevada kicks off Mountain West Conference play against San Jose State in women’s college basketball.
As non-conference play ends across the country it is time for conference games in women’s college basketball. San Jose State (7-6) heads into conference play this season looking to avenge a tough run against their rivals in the MWC last season. They finished tied for last place with just two wins losing in the first round of the tournament and missing the NCAA Tournament again. The Spartans have never made the NCAA Tournament and have only finished over .500 in conference play four times this century. The journey to make program history starts on the road against Nevada (5-8) in their first conference game of the season.

The Wolfpack finished in the middle of the pack in conference last season. They are off to a slow start this season. Heading into their first conference game of the season the Wolfpack have lost two straight games and four of the last five overall.
In the two games between the teams last season the Wolfpack finished with a series sweep. They won the two games by a combined 24 points running up the score in a win at home. That win saw the Wolfpack get over 80 points for the fourth time in the season as they cruised to an 82-65 win.
All of that should motivate the Finau Tonga and the Spartans to start off conference play with a win against a rival that is not playing its best basketball right now. Tonga has missed some time this season, but is averaging 10.6 points per game and is coming off a double (16 points and 12 rebounds) effort in the Spartans previous game.
