Women’s college basketball showcases two mid-major teams with Northern Kentucky hosting Oakland.
This season has been a challenge for both Oakland (4-7) and Northern Kentucky (3-10) in non-conference play. Both teams hope their fates turn as conference play takes over the rest of the schedule in the Horizon League. The Golden Grizzlies won their first two games in conference play and look to build on that momentum here. On the other hand the Norse have lost both of their initial conference games and hope to get on track against another familiar foe. In the Golden Grizzlies first two games in conference play they defeated Wright State (84-70) and Robert Morris (55-53) showing their versatility. One game the Golden Grizzlies scored their second most points of the season and the next they allowed their second fewest to an opponent.
Junior Maddy Skorupski has led the way all season averaging team bests with 16.1 points per game, 2.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game. In her two conference games Skorupski is averaging 20.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.
For the Norse this season they have lost both conference games by a combined 22 points. Senior Halle Idowu is leading the team with 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She is having a career-best season after two years each with Toledo and Northeastern in her fifth season in women’s college basketball.
