    Jacksonville and Miami will look to stay perfect on Monday night with a win in women’s basketball action.

    On Monday night, Jacksonville will travel to Coral Gables to take on Miami in a non-conference matchup with the hopes of pulling off an upset. The Dolphins opened the season on Wednesday with a game against Edward Waters University, winning 80-59. Edyn Battle led the offense with 22 points, but Makayla Edwards was also a force to be reckoned with. She finished the game with a career high 19 points and also a career high 13 rebounds for a double-double in the win. Also scoring in double figures was Jada Duckett with 10 points. The team finished the game shooting 40.3% from the field, 35.3% from beyond the arc and 80% from the free throw line.

    The Hurricanes also come into Monday night’s contest with a 1-0 record so far after beating Stetson handily to open the season with a 78-53 victory at home. Jasmyne Roberts had a game-high 16 points to lead the ‘Canes’ offense while Haley Cavinder finished the game with 12 points. Ahnay Adams and Cameron Williams each added 10 points to the scoreboard with Williams pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Natalijia Marshall led the team on the boards with 12 rebounds and added one block and two steals to the stat sheet.

    Miami was chosen to finish eighth in the preseason coaches poll, but the team has its sights on a higher spot. Graduate student Haley Cavinder was also named as one of the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top-50 players to watch this season. While her twin sister Hanna was not named to the list, she will also help the ‘Canes this season.

    Jacksonville and Miami have met three times in their history and Miami has earned wins in all three. The most recent was played last year and resulted in an 81-53 victory at home.
