An Illinois battle will take place Tuesday afternoon as Loyola-Chicago hosts Chicago State in women’s college basketball action.
The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers will welcome the Chicago State Cougars to Gentile Arena on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference matinee game. The Cougars are still in search of their first win of the season as they enter the contest with a record of 0-12 so far. The team’s most recent game was played against Illinois State on Sunday and resulted in a 79-52 loss at home.
Josie Hill led all scorers in the loss with a 20-point performance, but with Alyanna Culver being the only other Cougar in double figures with 13 points, the team could not keep Illinois State within reach. Evangelina Parrish did her best under the basket, finishing the game with seven rebounds, but she had a hard time competing with Illinois State’s Nevaeh Thomas who pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Ramblers bring an overall record of 6-4 into Tuesday’s game with an Atlantic 10 record of 0-1 so far. The team opened up conference play on Dec. 3, taking on La Salle at home, but they fell in a 55-45 defeat. The Ramblers bounced back, however, beating Western Michigan on the road a few days later with a 57-46 victory.
Kira Chivers was the only Rambler in double figures with a team-high 11 points, but eight of the team’s 10 rostered players for the game scored. Emma Theodorsson pulled down eight rebounds on the night and was short of a double-double by two rebounds and one basket. The team will need to improve upon its shooting, as the bulk of conference play looms since the Ramblers only shot 36 percent from the field and 21 percent from long range.
Chicago State and Loyola-Chicago have met 16 times in their history and the Ramblers hold a 16-3 advantage in the series. The last meeting between the teams went in favor of Loyola with a 74-47 victory on the road.
