Auburn will look to stay undefeated on Thursday night with a win against Arkansas-Little Rock in women’s non-conference basketball action.
On Thursday night, Arkansas-Little Rock will travel to Alabama to take on Auburn at Neville Arena for a non-conference game. The Trojans bring a record of 1-1 into the contest after beating Central Baptist 88-43 to open the season before falling to Arkansas in a 71-60 overtime thriller on Monday. Against the Razorbacks, Faith Lee led the offense for Little Rock with 21 points and Sug Williams finished closely behind with 18 points. Emerald Parker absolutely dominated on the boards, pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with eight points. While the team was able to keep the game close and force overtime against a strong Hogs squad, poor shooting got the best of the Trojans as they went a total of 24-74 from the field for a 32.4 percentage and just 3-10 from three-point range. In an area that should be a sure make, the team struggled going just 9-22 from the free throw line. All areas will need to be improved upon before conference play begins next month.

The Tigers are undefeated at 2-0 this season, but the team has yet to play a team that could challenge them. So far, Auburn has played Southern Illinois, resulting in a big 65-31 victory and Virginia University-Lynchburg in which they pulled off a massive 128-36 victory at home.
Against the Lady Dragons, the Tigers overwhelmed them, making history four times over. Auburn set records for most points in a quarter (37), half (68), total points (128) and margin of victory (92). While the dominance is impressive, the question of whether or not this kind of game will prepare the team for SEC play looms.
DeYona Gaston led the team offensive with 36 points, the most points scored since a 41-point game from Conswella Sparrow in 1998. She also led on the boards with 11 rebounds to earn a double-double in the lopsided win. While coach Johnnie Harris said she wanted the team to execute what they had been working on in practice, does a game against a team far lesser really allow for a roster to have quality execution when the competition in practice far exceeds that of such an inadequate opponent? The jury is still out on that one, but time will tell as the season continues on Thursday.
Auburn and Little Rock have met four times in program history and the Tigers hold a 3-1 advantage with the most recent win being a 106-37 victory for Auburn last season.
