MVP A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces host the Seattle Storm for Game 1 in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs.
The first round of the WNBA playoffs starts today in an action packed slate of games and two of the best teams historically in the WNBA will face off in tonight’s finale. The final game of the evening will be between the defending champion Las Vegas Aces who will host the Seattle Storm for Game 1 of this series. This comes right after the news that A’ja Wilson was named the second unanimous MVP in WNBA history. Wilson received all 67 first place votes. The only other person to do that was Cynthia Cooper in the inaugural season of the WNBA in 1997. Wilson will go down as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. She has previously won the league’s most valuable player award twice in 2020 and 2022 and gives the Aces a tremendous advantage in this opening series. Las Vegas finished the regular season 27-13 and in fourth in the overall standings. The Aces are subsequently -8.5 favorites to defend home court in Game 1.

Seattle was not far behind the Aces though in the regular season with a 25-15 record and held the fifth overall spot in the standings. The regular season matchup against the Storm and Aces told a different story though of the closeness of these two teams. Seattle won the first matchup on the road with a smothering defense but Las Vegas won the next three games to win the regular season series 3-1. Skylar Diggins-Smith, who is averaging 15.1 points per game, will be the player to watch if the Storm are going to pull off this first-round upset.
