Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty host Tina Charles and the Atlanta Dream in game one of the WNBA playoffs today.
The WNBA playoffs get started with the number one seeded New York Liberty taking on the Atlanta Dream. The teams played in the regular season finale with Atlanta winning and earning the final slot in the playoffs. New York did not play reigning MVP Breanna Stewart and held Sabrina Ionescu to just 22 minutes. They will be at full strength to start the playoffs with a raucous home crowd behind them. On the other side for Atlanta the team is playing the best basketball of the season. They have won three games in a row, only the third time all season the team has won multiple games in a row, led by the strong play of All-Star Allisha Gray, legend Tina Charles and rising star Rhyne Howard.

This season Howard led the team in scoring with 17.3 points while Gray anchored the team with 15.6 points per game. Those two put the pressure on the defense from the perimeter while the league’s second all-time leading scorer and all-time leader in rebounding and double-doubles, Charles, turned back the clock with 14.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
Atlanta will be heavy underdogs in this series with the first two games in New York. If a third game is necessary Atlatna will have home court advantage to try and pull off the upset over the number one seed this year.
This season New York went 16-4 at home, but have lost three of the last five in Barclays Center including the regular season finale against Atlanta. While Atlanta is playing its best overall basketball of the season, New York has struggled at home since the Olympic Break setting the stage for a very exciting first round match-up starting today with game one.
