The Minnesota Lynx host the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday afternoon in Game 1 of their first round series.
The Minnesota Lynx welcome the Phoenix Mercury to town on Sunday afternoon in Game 1 of their WNBA first round playoff series. The Lynx finished second in the league during the regular season with a 30-10 record. They finished two games back of the first place New York Liberty and two games up on the Connecticut Sun. The Lynx have already won a tournament this season, as they took home the Commissioner’s Cup. They are trying to duplicate that and win the WNBA title. First, they must take care of a Mercury team that they went 3-1 against this season. Their lone loss to Phoenix came back on June 7 when they lost 81-80. They won the other three games by double digits and will be looking to do much of the same on Sunday.

The Mercury, though, are looking to come to town and upset the Lynx to take a game lead in the series.
The Mercury finished the season 19-21 and struggled to end the season. They lost seven of their last 10 games.
The Mercury have been a balanced team this season, as they have four players averaging at least 10 points per game. Kahleah Copper leads the team scoring 21.1 points per game and Brittney Griner is right behind her at 17.8 points per game. Griner is also leading the team in rebounding at 6.6 per game.
This also could be the last postseason for veteran Diana Taurasi, as she is nearing the end of her career. She hasn’t made any announcements for next year, but there has been talk.
