The Wimbledon Championships continue on Wednesday with the first day of second round play. Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 tennis calendar and the last major tennis event ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Some high profile matches will take place, along with the start of doubles first round play.

No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev will face unranked Alexandre Muller in the second round of action on Center Court. He dispatched Aleksandar Kovcevic 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, where he is aiming to win it all after a semifinal run in 2023. Medvedev converted four of eight break points he earned against Kovacevic to maintain his perfect record on the All England Club’s No. 1 Court.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side Coco Gauff defeated fellow American Caroline Dolehide 6-1, 6-2 to reach the Wimbledon second round. For Gauff it was a much needed victory after she was bounced in the first round last year. She’ll face Romania’s Anca Todoni, who won her first match 7-5, 6-1.

21-year-old Brit Emma Raducanu has the weight of the country on her shoulders. She won in straight sets in the first round, beating Renata Zarazua 7-7 (7-0), 6-1. Raducanu was supposed to be playing 22nd seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, but she had to withdraw and this new matchup occurred. She’ll play on Wednesday against German Elise Mertens.
