Former middleweight champ Chris Weidman headlines the UFC 309 prelims from Madison Square Garden
A four-bout undercard takes to the octagon inside Madison Square Garden on Saturday night as up and coming bantamweight Jonathan Martinez (19-5) returns to action off his first loss in three years to face Marcus McGhee (9-1) who is undefeated since joining the UFC last spring. Martinez has won Performance of the Night bonuses in two of his last four bouts. Chris Weidman (16-7) who started his career with 13 consecutive wins, looks for his first winning streak since losing the middleweight championship to Vitor Belfort in 2015 when he takes on veteran Eryk Anders (16-8) who has won two of his last three bouts. Martinez comes into this fight after losing to Jose Aldo via unanimous decision in Brazil at UFC 301 back in May but has won six straight bouts in North America and is 10-4 since joining the UFC. The 30-year-old blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is currently 13th in the bantamweight rankings and could jump back into the top 10 with a convincing victory on Saturday.
Also on the prelims, veteran lightweight Jim Miller (37-18) returns off a decision loss to Bobby Green back in April to take on Damon Jackson (23-7-1) who is in search of his second win of 2024 after beating Alexander Hernandez in the spring.
Lightweight Roberto Romero (8-3-1) makes his UFC debut against David Onama (12-2) who has won four of his last five bouts with two wins coming via knockout. Onama has won Fight of the Night honors three times in his last five fights.
