Undefeated Sweden hosts Azerbaijan on Tuesday having already wrapped up promotion in the UEFA Nations League.
Sweden will host Azerbaijan on Tuesday in a UEFA Nations League showdown that will only bear much meaning for the guest given the former is already assured of automatic promotion. The Blue and Yellow cannot be budged from first place in Group C1 and us set to join the second tier of the competition in its next edition, though the same can’t be said for an Azerbaijan team set to place fourth. While Fernando Santos’ side cannot move up from fourth themselves, their final points haul and the manner in which they play on Tuesday will have big implications on their chances of fighting relegation.

The outlook looks somewhat bleak for Azerbaijan after racking up just one point from five games thus far, but a surprise result against Sweden could transform that situation dramatically.
Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was in top form against Slovakia last time out, teeing up Viktor Gyokeres for the game’s opener before bagging the eventual winner himself.
Having drawn 2-2 in Bratislava last month, that result was enough to ensure Sweden will finish top of Group C1 given the three points between it and Slovakia, who will advance to the promotion playoffs.
Azerbaijan, on the other hand, can finish no higher than fourth in the pool, but Tuesday’s test will decide whether or not it gets just one more opportunity to fight for its future.
The team currently ranks among the worst fourth-place finishers and heading for automatic relegation, but the right result in Solna could lift the team into playoff contention.
However, even a second-string Swedish side looks as though it could be too much for Santos’ men in their current condition.
