Defending champions Spain aim to remain unbeaten as wraps against Switzerland
Unbeaten in its first five matches in UEFA Nations League play this season, Spain welcomes Switzerland into Heliodoro Rodriquez Lopez Stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Monday as group play concludes as the hosts have already secured a spot in the quarterfinals that will take place in March. Switzerland has yet to win a match in this year’s tournament but has collected points in draws against Serbia and Denmark, and barring an upset on Monday are facing relegation to League B in the next Nations League tournament. The Swiss won the last match they played in Spain winning 2-1 in Nations League play back in September of 2022.

After winning the European Championships back in July, Spain has won four of its first five matches in Nations League play running its unbeaten streak to 20 matches in competitions dating back to a 2-0 loss at Scotland in March of 2023. Nine different goal scorers have contributed to Spain’s success in this tournament led by Fabian Ruiz who has two goals on the campaign. Ruiz, the 28-year-old midfielder who plays professionally for Paris Saint-Germain, has scored six goals for his country since 2019.
Switzerland forward Zeki Amdouni has three goals in Nations League play and comes into this match on a two-match goal streak.
Spain has reached the final in the last two editions of this event after a seventh place finish in 2019. Spain defeated Croatia on penalty kicks in the 2023 final but lost to France in 2021 2-1 giving a pair of goals in the the games final 25 minutes.
