Italy and Belgium face-off for the first time in exactly three years as the UEFA Nations League gets back underway on Thursday.
Exactly three years to the day after their last meeting, Italy and Belgium will face-off once more in the UEFA Nations League as the former looks to solidify itself at the head of Group 2 on Thursday. The Azzurri are yet to drop a point thus far in this edition of the Nations League and will all but guarantee at least a top-two finish—and a place in the playoffs—by making it 3-for-3 on Thursday. Belgium has lost its last three matchups against Italy and hasn’t won a competitive clash against this opponent since 1972, but there’s no time like the present to end the drought.

After disappointing at Euro 2024, Luciano Spalletti’s Italy is looking like a renewed force and making up for lost time in the UEFA Nations League.
The four-time world champions got their campaign up and running with a 3-1 triumph over France in Paris, where a 30th-minute equalizer courtesy of Federico Dimarco was the highlight of the evening:
Italy followed that up with a 2-0 victory over Israel last time out and already sit three points clear at the top of Group A2, and two wins from this international break will put any notion of relegation to bed.
Belgium, on the other hand, surrendered 2-0 in France last time out and needs a win in Rome to revive its hopes of advancing.
A win over Israel in its opener accounts for the country’s only Nations League win to date, but Domenico Tedesco’s side will need to rack up some points against the big guns to avoid a bottom-two finish.
