Neither French outfit Brest nor Bundesliga brute Bayer Leverkusen has yet to drop a point in the Champions League this season as two all-conquering contenders go to war on Wednesday. Despite being a newcomer at this level of European competition, Brest has wasted no time in making a success of its Champions League debut campaign after beating both Sturm Graz and Red Bull Salzburg. Leverkusen’s start has been over more impressive, however, after notching five goals against Feyenoord and AC Milan without conceding one thus far, with a chance to move to the top of the table in midweek.

Xabi Alonso’s second full season at the Leverkusen helm hasn’t been the cakewalk he might have hoped for after already failing to win three of his seven league fixtures so far this term.
But while The Factory Squad may sit fourth in both the Bundesliga and Champions League standings at present, its positioning in Europe will be the far more satisfactory at this point.
In fact, a run of seven games unbeaten is no bad way to get back in the European swing following the international break, with Leverkusen returning to action with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
Star striker Victor Boniface scored the winner at the BayArena but was involved in a worrying car crash hours after the game, where he suffered minor injuries to his hand and arm:

The Nigerian ace is nonetheless expected to be in contention for the visit to the Stade du Roudourou in Guingamp, where Brest is hosting European fixtures this term.
The club’s usual home, the Stade Francis-Le Ble, was deemed unfit for UEFA purposes as its falls way short of guidelines, not that it’s affected Brest’s form in Europe so far this campaign.
