The Guyana Amazon Warriors survived Qualifier No. 2 on Friday to advance to their second consecutive appearance in the Caribbean Premier League Final. Sunday’s battle for the championship at Providence Stadium in Guyana features the defending champion Amazon Warriors taking on the Saint Lucia Kings, who reached the Final by beating Guyana in Qualifier No. 1 on Wednesday. Sunday marks the record seventh appearance for the Amazon Warriors in the Final, winning in 2023 after losses in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Saint Lucia is the lone franchise around for the league’s founding in 2013 not to win a championship, falling short in the Final in both 2020 and 2021.

Guyana advanced to the Final with an eight-wicket win in Friday’s Qualifier No. 2, 149 and 2 to 148 and 10, over the Barbados Royals. Shai Hope notched a fifty in the win, scoring 56 runs off 33 balls, pairing with Moeen Ali’s 40 off 35 and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s 40 off 18 to power the attack. Romario Shepherd took three wickets and Ali bowled to a 6.00 economy rate in four overs.
The Kings advanced with a rain-shortened 15-run victory in Qualifier No. 1, their first win over the Amazon Warriors in three tries this tournament. CPL all-time runs leader Johnson Charles and Faf Du Plessis each recorded fifties, with Johnson scoring 79 runs off 45 balls and du Plessis posting 57 off 36. Alzarri Joseph put up a maiden in his two overs, allowing nine runs and taking a wicket.
Charles is the top run-producer still active with 445 runs off 285 balls in 11 matches, du Plessis has 384 while Hope paces Guyana with 369 in 12 matches. Noor Ahmad of the Kings led the CPL with 19 wickets taken, while Gudakesh Motie took 17 for the Amazon Warriors. Ali’s 4.97 economy rate is the best in the league among bowlers with more than five matches, while Ahmad is third at 6.33.
