Playoff positioning at stake as York United plays final home match of the season against visiting Pacific FC.
With a playoff spot secured, York United can now focus on fighting for a home playoff game as it heads into Thursday night’s matchup against Pacific FC in the penultimate match of the Canadian Premier League regular season. York United is second in the CPL with 11 wins but has the most losses of any playoff-bound team as it sits three points shy of Cavalry FC for second place in the table. Pacific is winless in its last four matches and are level with provincial neighbors Vancouver FC as the 2021 CPL champions are in danger of missing out on the playoffs, snapping a streak of four consecutive seasons making the postseason.

Despite being held scoreless in six consecutive matches, York United forward Brian Wright comes into this match two goals shy of tying Atlético Ottawa’s Rubén del Campo for the league lead. Wright, the 29-year-old Toronto native, is in his second season with York scoring a career-high nine goals for the Nine Stripes this season and has 24 goals in four seasons in the CPL.
Pacific has struggled to score this season ranking eighth in the league with 24 goals, but did receive a boost with the acquisition of Moses Dyer who scored in four straight games in September being named the CPL’s Player of the Month award. Dyer has eight goals on the season, split evenly between Vancouver and Pacific, and is also within striking distance of taking the Golden Boot.
Pacific leads the all-time series 8-7-7 with the season series deadlocked at 1-1-1 as both teams have earned 2-0 home wins. York United has only won one of the last seven home matches against Pacific dating back to July of 2019.
