Michigan and UCLA will square-off at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they try to earn the first spot in the Big Ten title game.
On Sunday afternoon, seventh-seeded Michigan and sixth-seeded UCLA will meet at SeatGeek Stadium in the first semifinal match of the men’s Big Ten conference tournament. With lower seedings, it is a surprise to see these two teams make it this far in the tournament, but they both deserve a spot. Both teams pulled off huge upsets in the first round of the tournament to find themselves vying for a spot in the championship game on Sunday. The winner of the first semifinal game will go on to play either top-seeded Ohio State or fourth-seeded Washington.

The Wolverines made it through after beating second-seeded Indiana in a narrow 1-0 victory on Thursday. Jason Bucknor scored his sixth goal of the season in the 29th minute to give Michigan the lead. The defense did its best to hold off the Hoosiers and only allowed one shot on frame which was scooped up by Isaiah Goldson in net to earn the shutout, his seventh of the year. The win was a huge upset as the Wolverines fell to the Hoosiers 5-0 during regular season play.
The Bruins played to a shocking 6-0 win over Maryland to open tournament play, fully proving that they belong in the mix for a Big Ten title. Six different players scored in the win with the first being Jose Contell who found the back of the net with the first goal in the 33rd minute. Just before halftime, Philip Naef made it a 2-0 game with his first goal of the season.
The second half was filled with more excitement as Andre Ochoa and Edrey Caceres scored two minutes apart to make it a 4-0 game shortly after the break. In the 66th minute, Sveinn Hauksson extended the lead to five before Artem Vovk scored the final goal of the game. Wyatt Nelson made two saves in net to earn his seventh clean sheet of the year.
Michigan and UCLA met during the regular season and the game resulted in a 3-3 draw. With successful opening rounds, Sunday’s game could go in either team’s favor. Tune in to see who makes it through to the title game.
