UCF hits the road on Saturday evening to take on TCU in a Big 12 conference matchup

The UCF Knights take on the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday night looking to stay unbeaten on the season. The Knights will be playing their first game on the road this season after beating New Hampshire and Sam Houston in their first two games of the year. The Knights have looked good to open the season as they have outscored their first two opponents 102-17. Quarterback KJ Jefferson has been great to start the year as he has gone 19-29 for 333 yards and two touchdowns. While Jefferson has been good, they have done a lot of damage on the ground as three guys have over 100 yards of rushing. RJ Harvey leads the way with 268 yards and six touchdowns. They will need to be good again on Saturday if they want to get a win and start off the conference schedule 1-0.

The Horned Frogs, though, are looking to defend their home turf and send the Knights home with their first loss of the season.

They also come into Saturday night a two-game winning streak after beating Stanford and Long Island University.

They won a hard-fought game against the Cardinal 34-27 in their first game of the season and then had little trouble with the Sharks last weekend.

They have been doing most of their damage through the air as Josh Hoover has passed for 620 yards and four touchdowns. He has spread the ball around as three different guys have over a 100 yards receiving with a touchdown.

Indiana heads out west on Saturday evening to take on UCLA in a Big Ten matchup

The Indiana Hoosiers hit the road for the first time this season when they take on the UCLA Bruins. The Hoosiers are coming off a historic offensive game in which they beat Western Illinois 77-3. It was the most points ever scored by the Hoosiers in a football game as their previous best was 76 against Franklin College back in 1901. They did all of this without scoring in the last 9:10 of the football game. It was a great offensive showing, but the competition gets much tougher on Saturday against a Bruins team playing their first ever Big Ten conference game. The Hoosiers are led by quarterback Kurtis Rourke who has thrown for 448 yards and three touchdowns. They also have three different running backs over 100 yards on the season and they have combined for seven touchdowns on the ground.

The Bruins will look to stop the Hoosiers attack and get a win in their first Big Ten game since joining the conference in the offseason.

The Bruins got an early bye and didn’t play last week after they slipped by Hawaii on the road in their first game.

The Bruins managed just one touchdown against the Warriors, but got three field goals from Mateen Bhaghani to get the win. The last field goal came with 56 seconds left to give the Bruins a 16-13 win.

They will have to get more going on offense if they want to get by a confident Hoosiers team and start 1-0 in the Big Ten.

Georgia plays its first true road game on Saturday evening when it visits Kentucky for an SEC battle

The Georgia Bulldogs put their number one ranking on the line on Saturday evening when they take on the Kentucky Wildcats. The Bulldogs come into the game a perfect 2-0 on the season after whipping Clemson and Tennessee Tech by a combined 82-6 score. The Tigers played the Bulldogs tough for a half in their first game, but Carson Beck got the offense going and outscored Clemson 28-3 in the second half. It was another dominant performance for the top-ranked Bulldogs. Beck has been great again to start the season as he has thrown for 520 yards and seven touchdowns in the firs two games. He has yet to throw an interception this year and will look to keep that up against a Wildcats team coming off a bad 31-6 loss to South Carolina last weekend.

The Wildcats opened the season with a weather-shortened 31-0 win over Southern Miss, but couldn’t get anything going on offense last weekend as they lost to the Gamecocks at home.

They managed just 183 yards of offense against South Carolina and just 44 yards through the air. It was an ugly game for the Wildcats and it doesn’t get any easier on Saturday against one of the best defenses in the country.

Brock Vandagriff has thrown just 28 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns in the two games. He has thrown two interceptions and has had trouble moving the offense in the early part of the season.

Quinn Ewers and the No. 2 ranked Texas will take the field against Owen McCown and UTSA on Saturday night.

UTSA will head on the road in Week 3 of college football to take on the new No. 2 ranked team in the country, Texas, an in-state rival at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas under 90-degree weather. The Longhorns are 2-0 and coming off the most dominant of those first two wins. Although they were able to win their first game at home in a 52-0 shutout against Colorado State, last week’s win 31-12 against the former No. 10 ranked team in the country in Michigan has to top the shutout. Quarterback Quinn Ewers was excellent in that win throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. The majority went to tight end Gunnar Helm who caught seven passes for 98 yards and one of the three touchdowns. He now leads the team in receiving through two games with 140 yards on nine catches in total. Jerrick Gibson leads the team on the ground with 20 total carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns despite Ryan Wingo breaking a 55-yard run to lead the team against Michigan.

The Roadrunners have not had the same success this season and will head into this third week with a 1-1 record after a demoralizing loss to Texas State on the road last week 49-10. They did win in Week 1, however, with a 28-16 defeat over Kennesaw State. Owen McCown and _ McCoy have been the primary connection for this team.

McCown leads the team with 445 yards through the air and three touchdowns while Willie McCoy has caught seven passes for 118 yards and one of those three touchdowns. Robert Henry leads the ground attack with 15 carries for 56 yards on the season. That is the part of the offense that will need improvement heading forward.

Utah hits the road on Saturday afternoon to take on in-state rival Utah State

The Utah Utes play their first road game on Saturday afternoon when it visits rival Utah State. The Utes come into the game a perfect 2-0 and fresh off a big win over Baylor last weekend. The game was against newly conference opponents, but it didn’t count as a Big 12 game because the two teams agreed to play before the Utes joined the conference. The Utes have looked good in their first two games, but quarterback Cam Rising did go down with a finger injury against Baylor last weekend and is unlikely to play against the Aggies. Rising missed all of last year with an injury, but this one doesn’t appear to be serious and he is supposed to be back next week when they play Oklahoma State. The Utes hope they can get by their in-state rival without him before they play the Cowboys in their first official Big 12 game.

The Aggies, though, will be looking to take advantage of the Utes without Rising and pick up the upset win.

They will have to play much better than they did last week as they were shutout by USC 48-0. The loss dropped them to 1-1 on the season.

They opened the season with a comeback win against Robert Morris, but couldn’t get their offense going against the Trojans.

The Aggies nearly suffered an embarrassing loss to Robert Morris, but they out scored the Colonials 26-0 in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and get the win.

Arkansas returns home after 2OT loss last weekend to host UAB, which also comes off a road L

Arkansas (1-1) twice led by 13 points last weekend in a double-overtime loss at then-No. 16 Oklahoma State. On Saturday, the Razorbacks return home to host UAB (1-1), which is on the road for the second consecutive week. Arkansas looks to return to the postseason in 2024 after a 4-8 finish last year that included a 1-7 mark in the Southeastern Conference. Sam Pittman is 24-26 in his fifth season coaching the Hogs. UAB is led by former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer and was 4-8 last season, ending a string of six consecutive bowl selections.

Ja’Quinden Jackson scored three first-half touchdowns as Arkansas jumped out to a 20-7 halftime lead at Oklahoma State on Sept. 7 but needed Kyle Ramsey’s 45-yard field goal as regulation time expired to get to overtime before losing 39-31. Jackson finished with 149 yards on 24 carries while Taylen Green threw for 416 yards on 26-of-45 passing with a touchdown and a pick. Andrew Armstrong caught 10 of those passes for 164 yards.

There was no such drama for the Blazers, who were thumped 32-6 at UL Monroe on Sept. 7. Jonah Delange’s two first-half field goals were all the scoring for UAB, which hurt its cause with three turnovers, including a pick-six. Jacob Zeno finished 22-of-32 for just 167 yards in the air while Lee Beebe Jr. picked up 62 yards on 14 carries.

Jackson leads the Razorbacks with 250 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, gaining 7.8 yards per carry, while Green has thrown for 645 yards and three TDs thus far. Armstrong is the leading receiver despite missing the opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a hamstring injury.

Zeno has completed 70.3% of his throws for UAB for 382 yards and two TDs with two interceptions. Kam Shanks leads the receivers for 10 grabs for 116 yards and Beebe tops the ground game, averaging 5.0 yards a carry with 144 yards and two touchdowns. Arkansas won the only previous meeting between the teams 45-17 at home on Oct. 25, 2014.

Cam Ward and No. 10 Miami are back at it on Saturday against Ball State.

Through two weeks of the 2024 College Football season, the ACC looks to be wide open. Sitting at the top of the conference is Miami (2-0, 0-0 ACC), in the third season under head coach Mario Cristobal. After a 7-6 season last year, The U has gotten a major boost from Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward, who through two games has thrown for 689 yards and six touchdowns while adding 46 yards and another touchdown on the ground. On Saturday, Ward and Miami are back in action at home at Hard Rock Stadium against Ball State (1-0, 0-0 MAC).

Miami already has one signature win this year, which came in Week 1 against in-state rival Florida. That was a breakout game for Ward, who threw for 385 yards and a touchdown. His top receiver in that one was Xavier Restrepo, who had seven catches for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Hurricanes’ blowout 41-17 win.

Last week was Miami’s home opener, with the Hurricanes hosting FCS program Florida A&M. Ward threw for another 304 yards and three more touchdowns in that one, while Restrepo recorded four catches for 104 yards and one of the touchdowns. Miami won the game 56-7.

This week they’ll take on a Ball State team playing its first FBS opponent of the year. The Cardinals opened up their season at home last week, hanging on to beat Missouri State 42-34.

West Virginia heads to Pitt on Saturday afternoon in the “Backyard Brawl”

The West Virginia Mountaineers battle the Pitt Panthers in the “Backyard Brawl” that dates back to 1895. It will be the 107th meeting between the two teams with the Panthers leading the overall series 62-41-3. The Panthers also come into the game 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2021. They whipped Kent State to start the season 55-24 and then slipped by Cincinnati 28-27 last week. It was a huge win for the Panthers against the Bearcats as they trailed 27-6 with 4:50 left in the third quarter, but they scored the last 21 points to get the win. Ben Sauls hit a 35 yard field goal with 17 seconds left to give the Panthers the win and keep them undefeated on the season.

They fell in their first game to Penn State at home, but rebounded with an easy 49-14 win over Albany last weekend.

They didn’t have enough to keep up with the Nittany Lions, but got their offense going against the overmatched Great Danes.

Garrett Greene has led the team through the air as he has thrown for 397 yards and three touchdowns. He also has 73 yards on the ground with a touchdown.

He has spread the ball around as three receivers are within a yard of each other for the team lead. Hudson Clement has 73 yards receiving, while Kole Taylor and Traylon Ray both have 72.

Tulane looks to avoid a second straight loss when it travels to Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon

The Tulane Green Wave hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. The Green Wave are coming off a near upset of Kansas State and are looking to get back in the win column. They led the Wildcats 20-10 at halftime and still had a seven-point lead early in the fourth, but gave up back-to-back touchdowns and fell 34-27 at home. It gets even tougher for them on Saturday when they take on an Oklahoma team that is undefeated on the season and ranked No. 15 in the country. The Green Wave are led quarterback Darian Mensah who has thrown for 547 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target has been Mario Williams as they have connected 10 times for 252 yards, but Williams has yet to score a touchdown. Makhi Hughes has been the team’s leading rusher with 187 yards and two touchdowns.

The Sooners have been great on defense so far this season as they have given up just 15 combined points to Temple and Houston.

The offense looked good against the Owls, but struggled to get anything going last weekend against the Cougars. They slogged through the game and managed just 249 yards and two touchdowns.

They didn’t score in the second half, but thankfully the defense held the Cougars scoreless and they escaped with a 16-12 win.

Saturday the offense is going to have to better if they want to take down an upset-mined Green Wave team.

Notre Dame make the short trip to West Lafayette to take on in-state rival Purdue on Saturday afternoon

The Purdue Boilermakers welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to town on Saturday afternoon as they look to stay unbeaten on the season. The Boilermakers are coming off a bye week after beating Indiana State in their first game. They had little trouble against the overmatched Sycamores as they won 49-0. Hudson Card had a great day in that game as he went 24-25 for 273 yards and four touchdowns. It was his best game as a Boilermaker and he will be looking to replicate that success on Saturday. He spread the ball around as four different receivers caught a touchdown pass. Max Klare led the way with five catches for 71 yards and at touchdown. The defense held the Sycamores to just 154 yards of offense, but they are going to have a bigger test on Saturday against the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame will look to slow down the Boilermakers offense as it tries to bounce back from a shocking upset loss to Northern Illinois last weekend.

They struggled on offense as they managed just 14 points in the loss. They led late in the fourth quarter, but Kanon Woodill drilled a 35-yard field goal with 31 seconds left to send the Fighting Irish home with a loss.

The Fighting Irish had set themselves up with a great chance to make the playoffs after beating Texas A&M in Week 1, but now have an uphill climb after the upset loss.

It starts on Saturday against a Purdue team that is desperate for a big home win. The Fighting Irish have been good on defense so far this year, but the offense led by Riley Leonard has not found its rhythm yet.

Texas A&M travels to the Swamp on Saturday afternoon to take on Florida in an SEC battle

The Texas A&M Aggies hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Florida Gators in an SEC conference battle. The Aggies are coming off their first win of the year and are looking to get above .500. They lost a close game to Notre Dame at home in Week 1, but had little trouble with McNeese last weekend winning 52-10. The Aggies have leaned heavily on the run game so far this year. They have 479 yards on the ground, but just 296 in the air in the first two games. Le’Veon Moss has been the team’s leader on the ground as he has rushed for 154 yards on 29 carries. He has scored three times already this season. Amari Daniels has also been good as he is averaging 5.6 yards a carry and has two touchdowns on the ground. Saturday they will need to be just as good if they want to get a big road win over a Gators team looking for their first win against an FBS team this year.

The Gators struggled in their season-opening game against Miami, but got in the win column last Saturday when they beat Samford 45-7.

The competition ramps back up for the Gators this Saturday as they try and show they can compete with the top teams in the SEC.

The Gators schedule is one of the toughest in the country this season and no win is guaranteed. They need to get a win on Saturday as the schedule doesn’t get any easier.

Montrell Johnson Jr. will try and help them get that win as he has been great on the ground so far this season. He has rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games of the season.

Morehead State looks to make it three-straight wins against No. 8 Montana on Saturday.

After opening the season with two consecutive wins in convincing fashion, Morehead State heads on the road to face No. 8 Montana at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula on Saturday. 

The eighth-ranked Grizzlies split their first two games of the season with a win over Missouri State and a loss against North Dakota in Grand Forks last week. Montana has already won once on its home turf, and will try to bounce back from a close loss to North Dakota on the road. Morehead State, on the other hand, has won two consecutive games to open the season against Central State and Kentucky Christian.

Most recently, Montana was outscored 20-0 in the second half in a 27-24 loss to North Dakota last week. Montana dominated the first half with a 24-7 lead, but couldn’t hold on late. North Dakota had the ball for over 12 minutes in the fourth quarter, preventing the Grizzlies from getting an opportunity at a go-ahead score. 

As for Morehead State, the Eagles took care of business in a 48-7 victory over Kentucky Christian last week. The Eagles allowed only 53 total yards of offense and scored 45 unanswered points in the dominant win. Connor Genal led the way with 221 passing yards and three touchdowns for Morehead State. 

Morehead State heads to Washington-Grizzly Stadium to face No. 8 Montana on Saturday.

Howard looks to win back-to-back games against Morehouse who is looking for their first win of the season in the HBCU NY Football Classic.

Morehouse College goes for their first win today taking on Howard University in the HBCU NY Football Classic. It has been a slow start for the Maroon Tigers starting the year off 0-2 before playing Howard. They are trying to improve on a 1-8 campaign in 2023. Last year Howard won this matchup in a big way by a 65-19 final in Washington, D.C. The Maroon Tigers are trying to kick their offense into a higher gear after their opening games where they’ve combined for 24 points. Morehouse is coming off a matchup against Johnson C. Smith University where they lost 37-13. The matchup was close in the first half with Morehouse tied up at 7 in the first quarter and Johnson C. Smith was only up 14-7 at the half. But Golden Bulls were too much in the second running away with things and Morehouse could only muster six in the fourth quarter. New head coach Terance Mathis is still looking for his first win with the program. Morehouse has lost 15 games in a row in the month of September so this Maroon Tigers team has all the motivation on their side.

Howard is going to be a very tough opponent to break that streak against though. After a tough opener to the season where the Bison lost big to Rutgers 44-7, Howard won a thriller last week beating Mercyhurst 32-31. After getting shutout in the first quarter, the Bison turned it around and scored in every quarter the rest of the way. Howard scored five points in the last 41 seconds when it looked inevitable that it was on its way to defeat. The Bison will have the upper-hand in this matchup Saturday.

No. 6 Missouri faces a tough non-conference test this week as No. 24 Boston College comes to Columbia on Saturday afternoon.

In one of just two top-25 matchups on the Week 3 college football slate, No. 6 Missouri (2-0, 0-0 SEC) will have to defend its home turf at Faurot Field when No. 24 Boston College (2-0, 1-0 ACC) comes to town. This is a Missouri team with large aspirations and a star-studded offense. That unit is led by quarterback Brady Cook and wide receiver Luther Burden III – both of whom were named to the Maxwell Award Watchlist before the season.

That duo is off to a strong start this season, as is the rest of Eliah Drinkwitz’s squad. In two games against Murray State and Buffalo the Tigers have outscored their opponents 89-0. That includes a 38-0 win over Buffalo last week.

This week though Missouri will face a much tougher test in Boston College, which has gotten off to a great start under new head coach Bill O’Brien. BC started the year by upsetting Florida State in Tallahassee with a convincing 28-13 win. Then last week the Eagles took care of business with a monster 56-0 win over FCS Duquesne. That effort saw BC enter the AP Top 25 this week – the school’s first appearance in the rankings since late in the 2018 season.

On offense BC is lead by dual threat quarterback Thomas Castellanos. Through two games Castellanos has thrown for 340 yards and six touchdowns without an interception, and run for another 81 yards and a score.

Lafayette tries to make it two-straight wins when it hosts Marist at Fisher Stadium on Saturday.

After earning a trip to the winner’s circle with a victory on the road last week, Lafayette tries to make it two-straight wins when it hosts Marist at Fisher Stadium in Easton on Saturday. 

The Leopards will open their home schedule with an even 1-1 record following a comeback win last week at Monmouth. Lafayette opened the season with a loss at Buffalo, but got a huge performance from WR Elijah Steward, who won FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, to notch its first win. Marist, on the other hand, opened its season with a loss at home against Georgetown, and will now look for its first win of the season on Saturday. This is the seventh time that these two teams will meet, with Lafayette winning the previous six matchups, including a 28-6 victory during the 2008 season.

Most recently, Lafayette scored twice in the final minute to earn a 40-35 victory over Monmouth in West Long Branch last week. Junior QB Dean DeNobile threw for a career-high 394 passing yards and two touchdowns, while WR Elijah Steward set a school record with 15 catches for 244 yards and the game-winning touchdown. 

As for Marist, the Red Foxes couldn’t hold a halftime lead in a 31-10 loss to Georgetown in Poughkeepsie last week. Marist took a 10-7 lead into halftime, but the Hoyas scored 24 unanswered points to pull away. Marist running back Carter James ran for 47 rushing yards and a touchdown in the loss. 

Lafayette looks to build on last week’s win when the Leopards host Marist at Fisher Stadium on Saturday.

Michigan looks to bounce back from a loss when it hosts Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon

The Michigan Wolverines welcome the Arkansas State Red Wolves to the Big House on Saturday afternoon as they look to get back on track after a blowout loss to Texas last weekend. The Wolverines saw their 32-game regular season winning streak come to an end as the Longhorns came to to town a beat them 31-12. The Wolverines struggled again on offense as they have had trouble finding a rhythm with a new offense line and Davis Warren under center. They did beat Fresno State in their first game 30-10, but the offense didn’t look great in that game either. They will try and be better on Saturday against a Red Wolves team that is undefeated on the season.

The Red Wolves have won their first two games of the season, but they haven’t been dominant in either game.

They slipped by Central Arkansas 34-31 in their first game and then beat Tulsa 28-24 last weekend.

In their first game against the Bears they led 27-10 to begin the fourth quarter, but gave up 21 straight points. They were able to avoid the upset when they scored with seven seconds left in the game.

The Red Wolves had to comeback in their second games they trailed 17-7 at halftime, but outscored the Golden Hurricane 21-7 in the second half to get the win and stay undfeated.

Can North Texas stay undefeated with a win over an in-state school as it takes on Texas Tech on Saturday?

In a battle between two Texas schools, the North Texas Mean Green will take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Jones AT&T Stadium today. This means bragging rights are on the line, as both universities look to establish status among the southern state’s prominent list of college football teams. 

North Texas is currently 2-0 on the season and one of just five teams in the AAC that remain undefeated. With a win today, UNT would be well-positioned ahead of conference play and be carrying tremendous momentum. 

At 1-1, Texas Tech is actually lucky to not be winless at this point. The Big 12 school has really struggled early in the season, but still has plenty of time to get things back on track.

The Red Raiders were at risk of falling to 0-2 on the season, but pulled out a win in overtime against Abilene Christian last weekend. It was a 52-51 victory for Texas Tech to earn its first win of the season. The Mean Green took care of business in their contest last week, beating South Alabama by a pair of touchdowns to stay undefeated here early in the season. 

Following this contest, Texas Tech will remain at home for their next contest against Arizona State next Saturday as Big 12 play kicks off. Meanwhile, North Texas will head back home to take on Wyoming next weekend.

The Victory Bell is on the line when Cincinnati visits Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon.

In a Southwest Ohio rivalry matchup on Saturday, Cincinnati (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) visits Miami (OH) (0-1, 0-0 MAC) at Yager Stadium. The Victory Bell will be on the line for the 128th time, making this one of the oldest and most-played rivalries in college football. The series began in 1888 and 136 years later neither team can claim an advantage in the rivalry – the head-to-head record is tied at 60 wins a side with seven ties.

Cincinnati made a big push to tie up the series over the last two decades. The Bearcats won a series record 16 games in a row from 2006 to 2022. Last year Miami snapped the streak, winning 31-24 in overtime at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati to re-tie the series with their 60th win.

Coming into this year’s matchup Cincinnati is 1-1. The Bearcats lost last week, letting a 24-6 lead slip away in a 28-27 loss to Pitt. Despite the loss the Bearcats got a big time performance from running back Corey Kiner, who carried the ball 20 times for 149 yards. In the passing game, quarterback Brendan Sorsby threw for 298 with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Miami was off last week, after opening the season at Northwestern two weeks ago. The RedHawks kept things close with the Wildcats for 60 minutes but ended up on the wrong side of a 13-6 game. Receiver Cade McDonald caught eight passes for 105 yards in that game.

Louisiana Tech heads on the road for the first time this season on Saturday, taking on NC State.

After a week off last week, Louisiana Tech (1-0, 0-0 CUSA) returns to action in Week 3 on Saturday. The Bulldogs will be on the road against a Power 4 team, visiting NC State (1-1, 0-0 ACC) at Carter-Finley Stadium. When Tech opened the season two weeks ago, it was at home against FCS foe Nicholls. The Bulldogs won that game 25-17. Preseason all-conference running back Marquis Crosby carried the ball nine times in that game for 44 yards, and will look to have a bigger impact this week.

NC State opened up the season with a win over FCS Western Carolina, 38-21. Last week the Wolfpack took part in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte, but came up on the wrong side of a 51-10 game against Tennessee.

As the Wolfpack look to bounce back, they’ll lean on their offensive stars. That starts with true sophomore wide receiver KC Conception, who came into the season with plenty of hype including being named to the Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List. Through two games this season Conception has 14 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns, after catching 71 passes for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns last year.

Quarterback Grayson McCall will be the one getting the ball to Conception. McCall comes to NC State after five years at Coastal Carolina, including four as the starter.

LSU goes for its second straight win on Saturday afternoon when it takes on SEC rival South Carolina

The LSU Tigers hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in their first SEC conference game of the season. The Tigers bounced back from a loss last weekend to beat Nicholls 44-21. The Tigers had lost their first game to USC the previous Sunday, but shook off a slow start to pull away from Nicholls to get their first win. They were up just two early in the third quarter, but scored the last three touchdowns of the game to pick up the blowout win. Garrett Nussmeier was good throughout the game as he went 27-37 for 302 yards and six touchdowns through the air. Kyren Lacy was the beneficiary of three of those touchdown passes. Lacy ended the day with five catches for 65 yards and those three scores. Nussmeier will have to be good again on Saturday if they want to knock off a South Carolina team that has won its first two games.

The Gamecocks come into Saturday playing well as they are fresh off a big 31-6 win over Kentucky despite being an underdog.

The Gamecocks struggled to get by Old Dominion in their first game as they won 23-19, but looked good against the Wildcats.

They led just 10-6 at the end of the first half, but dominated the second half as they outscored the Wildcats 21-0.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers led the way by going 11-15 for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Mazeo Bennett Jr. had three catches for 63 yards and one of the touchdowns through the air.

The defense shined for the Gamecocks as they gave up just 183 total yards and returned an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

No. 13 Oklahoma State and Tulsa renew their rivalry Saturday afternoon at H. A. Chapman Stadium.

On Saturday afternoon two in-state Oklahoma programs renew their rivalry for the first time since 2011 when No. 13 Oklahoma State (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) takes on Tulsa (1-1, 0-0 AAC). While this is the first time the rivalry will be played in three years, it’s the first time Oklahoma State will make the 70 mile drive east along the Cimarron Turnpike to visit H. A. Chapman Stadium since 2019. Oklahoma State has dominated the rivalry this century, with a 9-0 winning streak dating back to 1999. However the most recent matchup in 2021 in Stillwater was one of the closest, with the Cowboys squeaking out a 28-23 win.

Coming into this matchup the Cowboys are ranked 13th in the nation at 2-0. They just hung onto that ranking and unbeaten record last week though, erasing a 21-7 halftime deficit against Arkansas at home to win 39-31 in double overtime. Situational defense played a big part in that comeback, forcing three Arkansas turnovers and getting a pair of fourth-down stops (although the unit allowed 648 total yards and 7.0 yards per play).

Tulsa was on the road against Arkansas State last week, and lost 28-24. The Hurricanes opened their season two weeks ago with a 62-28 win at home over Northwestern State. This is the second year for Tulsa head coach Kevin Wilson, who went 4-8 last season.

The Citadel hosts North Greenville in NCAA Division II football action on Saturday. Watch the game live on Fubo.

The Citadel (1-1) has already exceeded last season’s victory total and on Saturday looks to get a second win when it hosts Division II North Greenville (0-1) at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. The Trailblazers make the trip from upstate Tigerville to face the Bulldogs, who were 0-11 a season ago. The Citadel last made a postseason appearance in 2016, when they lost to in the second round of the FCS playoffs after getting a first-round bye. North Greenville’s last visit to the Division II playoffs came as an independent in 2016, as well, winning a pair of playoff games before a regional final loss. The Bulldogs, under second-year head coach Maurice Drayton (1-12), play in the Southern Conference while the Trailblazers, from the Gulf South Conference, are led by Jeff Farrington (52-58), who is in his 11th season.

The Citadel dropped a 23-20 decision to visiting South Carolina State on Sept. 7, never getting the ball past midfield in two possessions after closing to within a field goal with 11:30 remaining. Johnathan Bennett threw for 169 yards and a touchdown while also throwing a pick and also scored on a one-yard run. The Bulldogs were outgained 422-275 and ran only 48 plays to 71 for the visitors.

North Greenville forced overtime on Dylan Ramirez’s one-yard touchdown run with 5:29 remaining but lost to Keiser (Florida), 23-20. The Seahawks entered the season as the top-ranked team in NAIA football. Ramirez threw for 244 yards with an interception while running for 64. Reeves Dacus missed a 51-yard field goal attempt at the gun and misfired from 33 yards away in overtime.

Corey Ibrahim leads the run game for The Citadel with 120 yards while Bennett has two TD runs. Bennett is 23-of-39 for 339 yards with a touchdown and an interception so far and Dervon Pesnell is his favorite target with five catches for 158 yards. The Bulldogs are 2-0 all-time against the Trailblazers, most recently getting a 45-13 win on Sept. 18, 2021, at home.

No. 4 Alabama makes a rare regular-season trip north of the Mason-Dixon Line to visit unbeaten Wisconsin on Saturday

The last-time fourth-ranked Alabama (2-0) went north of the Mason-Dixon Line for a true road game, the global pandemic thriller Contagion was the No. 1 film in U.S. theaters. But on Saturday, the Crimson Tide crosses the line for the first time since Sept. 10, 2011, when they visit Wisconsin (2-0) at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Alabama held steady in the Associated Press Top 25 after turning a close game into a late rout a week ago. Wisconsin, unbeaten and unranked, didn’t overwhelm in a win at home over an FCS foe.

The Tide struggled against visiting South Florida for three quarters on Sept. 7, taking a 14-13 lead into the final 15 minutes before pulling away for a 42-16 win. Ryan Williams hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Milroe with 5:50 remaining to make it a two-score game at 28-16. Milroe finished 16-of-26 for 194 yards and two touchdowns while adding two TDs on the ground, while Jamarion Miller picked up 140 yards and a score on 15 carries.

The Badgers took a 14-0 lead a little more than 10 minutes into the game before putting away South Dakota 27-13. The Coyotes got as close as 17-13 in the third quarter and Chez Mellusi put the game away with a one-yard scoring run midway through the fourth. Tyler Van Dyke was 17-of-27 for 214 yards and a touchdown as the Badgers added 171 yards on the ground, 73 on just eight carries by Cade Yacamello. Mellusi scored twice, finishing with 60 yards.

Alabama has outscored Western Kentucky and South Florida by a combined 105-16 to open the season, while Wisconsin victories over Western Michigan and South Dakota have come by a less gaudy 55-27 margin. Milroe is 23-of-35 for 394 yards and five TDs, three of those to Williams, who has six grabs for 207 yards. Mellusi leads Wisconsin with 134 yards and three TDs on the ground.

The all-time series is tied 1-1, with the Crimson Tide winning the last meeting 35-17 in Dallas on Sept. 5, 2015. Wisconsin won the first meeting 15-0 at Madison in 1928.
