The Bulldogs are also looking for their first conference win of the season after losing back-to-back games against No. 9 Marquette and No. 11 UConn. The tests don’t get much easier against Villanova, but at least the Wildcats aren’t ranked coming into this matchup. Butler is coming off a close 78-74 loss two Saturdays ago against Uconn in where it nearly pulled off a tremendous comeback. The Bulldogs never led in the game and were down 14 at the half. But Butler was able to tie the game briefly at the end, outscoring the Huskies in the second half. Despite the loss, Andre Screen had an impressive game with a double-double, scoring 17 and adding 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs pulled it off with a 13-2 run ending with a made free throw by Kolby King to tie the game at 63 with 4:43 minutes left in regulation. The Huskies hit some clutch free throws to close out the game and avoid the upset.

Villanova is trying to bounce back from an 86-79 loss against Creighton two Saturdays ago. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Wildcats and dropped them to 1-1 in conference play. Villanova is looking for its first win on the road of the season. The Wildcats kept it close against the Blue Jays in the first, just being down by a bucket at half. But Creighton built a double-digit lead that Villanova wasn’t able to come back from. Regardless, Eric Dixon had a phenomenal game, scoring 27 points. It was the graduate’s fifth game in a row of scoring 20 points or more. Villanova will likely need a similar offensive output to pull off this road upset.

The Wolverines are coming off a loss to fourth-ranked USC and now have the daunting task of playing the top-ranked team in country next. This young Wolverines squad has played great against unranked teams, winning all 10 games by an average of 35.0 points per game. Against ranked opponents this season it has been a different story.

This game is an opportunity for the Wolverines not only for a win against a ranked opponent in their fourth attempt, but another crack at topping a top-ranked team. They came close the first time against the Gamecocks, but this Bruins team is another animal all together.

The Bruins head into this game ranked No. 1 in the country for several reasons. They are 18th in the country in scoring and fifth in points allowed per game. Betts is a double-double machine, averaging 19.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. No. 11 UConn goes on the road to take on DePaul and stay undefeated in Big East play with a 2-0 conference record and 10-3 overall. That’s Juxtaposed with the Blue Demons who are 0-2 in conference play. However, the good news for DePaul is that it is 9-1 overall. The Blue Demons are trying to win back-to-back games Wednesday after beating Loyola (Md.) by a comfortable 84-65 win in their last non-conference game of the regular season. It was the Blue Demons’ ninth non-conference win of the season. NJ Benson had a phenomenal game leading DePaul with 22 points, which is a career-best.

Benson also added an amazing 17 rebounds to secure the double-double. DePaul’s defense might have been even more impressive, suffocating Loyola (Md.) at the beginning of the game, limiting its opponent to missing its first five shots and forcing eight turnovers. DePaul opened up the second half with a 12-1 run and got up as much as 29 and never looked back. UConn will be favored this afternoon, but DePaul should put up a great fight to make this a close conference battle.

UConn will be such a tough opponent because it is going for its seventh win in a row and it has yet to lose in a true road game. The Huskies are coming off a very impressive win against Butler in Indiana, winning on Saturday 78-74. Alex Karaban led the game with 21 points and hit two clutch three-pointers to help seal the win for the Huskies. UConn had a double-digit lead in the first half, but the Bulldogs kept fighting back. They are 7-0 at home and 1-0 in the ACC after beating Virginia Tech on the road in the first week of December. Pitt is trying to get its fourth win in a row and are coming off a huge win against Sam Houston, winning 110-78 last Saturday. Zack Austin and Ishmael Leggett went off in the offensive explosion, both leading the last non-conference game of the season with 23 points apiece.

The 110 points are the second most Pitt has scored at its home arena at the Petersen Events Center. A big reason for the dramatic win was the Panthers’ efficiency from three, hitting 16-of-31 from behind the arc. Pitt started the game off great with a 10-0 run and got up as much as 17 points in the half. Sam Houston closed the gap within eight points by halftime, but Pitt just kept adding fuel to the flame, outscoring its opponent by 20 in the second half. This game will be closer, but the Panthers should be able to stay undefeated in conference play to start the new year.

Cal is going for its first ACC win in program history after losing to Stanford in the first week of December. The Golden Bears are coming off a big 71-50 loss two Saturdays ago against No. 23 San Diego State. Cal was held to just 16 points in the first half and it was hard to rally from there, even though it scored nearly 20 more points in the second half. Jeremiah Wilkinson led the Golden Bears with 13 points, but the team shot just 25.5 percent from the field. It was the 19th loss in a row for Cal against a ranked opponent. Needless to say, they’ll need to shoot at a much higher percentage to pull off this upset.

There’s no time to waste for Arsenal as it opens its account for 2025 on Thursday, when Mikel Arteta’s side hope to get the new calendar year underway with a bang at Brentford. The Gunners are unbeaten in 11 games but begin the New Year with a difficult-looking trip to the Gtech Community Stadium, where Thomas Frank’s men have recorded just a single loss so far this season. Luckily for Arsenal, that loss just so happens to have come in Brentford’s last home outing, and Arteta would like nothing more than to christen 2025 by condemning the Bees to a second straight slip.

Brentford just so happened to mark its Premier League debut with a stunning upset of Arsenal back in August 2021, but the head-to-head has leaned more convincingly in favor of the Gooners since then.

Following that stumble, the north Londoners have won five and drawn one of their six showdowns with London rivals Brentford, including three straight wins at the Gtech.

Kai Havertz supplied the decider against Ipswich Town just after Christmas, with the Gunners forced to dig deep before snatching the three points against promoted opposition:

Meanwhile, Frank & Co have lose much of their momentum from earlier this term and are without a win in four, not to mention failing to score in each of their last two games.

It doesn’t help the west London outfit is currently dealing with a slew of injuries, with no fewer than 11 first-team squad members potentially missing the visit of Arsenal for one reason or another.

Bukayo Saka is one of only a few serious concerns for Arteta, though the winger’s absence alone threatens to have a major impact on Arsenal’s fortunes in attack.
