Colorado is coming off a 4-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings on the shoulders of their assistant captain Mikko Rantanen. The stalwart veteran scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Avs to victory and win the first star of the game. The Kings scored just 32 seconds into the game and led 2-1 by the end of the first period. Then no one else in the game scored but Rantanen. The Capitals and Avalanche are both in fourth place in their respective divisions. Washington is trying to bounce back from a close loss when they dropped 4-3 in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs at home. The first two periods of the game were all Washington heading into the third with a 3-1 lead. Aliaksei Protas scored in the second and added an assist to grab the second star of the game.
