Everton is on a serious high ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to Brentford
A shock 2-0 win over Liverpool in the Merseyside derby may be enough to guarantee Everton’s place in the Premier League next season, but the Toffees still have a job to do at home to Brentford on Saturday. Sean Dyche’s side is still 16th in the table but now sits eight points clear of the relegation zone with only four games to go, and a win in Week 35 would lift them above the Bees and truly shore things up. Back-to-back wins over teams in the current bottom three have effectively ended any suspicion of Thomas Frank’s men returning to the Championship as well, though neither side will be resting on its laurels at Goodison Park.

Everton picked a fine moment to produce one of its best performances of the season to date, deservedly dispatching Liverpool while simultaneously putting a serious dent in the Reds’ title chances.
Jarrad Branthwaite bundled the ball home to put Everton ahead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a timely second after half-time in what was a courageous effort from the host:
Everton will hope to summon that same fortress-like mentality in pursuit of a fourth straight win at Goodison, having bested each of Liverpool, Burnley and Nottingham Forest at home since the start of April.
Brentford was in the midst of a woeful patch of form in the road prior to hammering Luton Town 5-1 last time out, where Yoane Wissa’s first-half brace plotted a course to success.
That was proof enough that Brentford can survive without England striker Ivan Toney, who was left out of the squad despite Frank’s suggesting the forward could be fit.
Toney has been named as an injury doubt of late, though it seems likely the striker’s recent comments hinting at a summer transfer away from west London may also be affecting selection.
Everton, meanwhile, may be forced into a change at left-back after Vitaliy Mykolenko came off at half-time against Liverpool, while Calvert-Lewin will look to continue his recent spike in front of goal.
