The Boston Fleet will take a trip west to play the Minnesota Frost on Thursday night in women’s professional hockey action.
On Thursday night, the last place Boston Fleet will take on the second place Minnesota Frost at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Fleet comes into Thursday’s game with a record of 2-4 so far this season for a total of six points. With a win, the team will be able to move ahead of the Toronto Sceptres in the standings. Boston’s last time out on the ice was just before the new year and was played against Montreal, resulting in a tough 3-1 loss. The Victoire scored first, finding the back of the net just before the end of the first. Hilary Knight tied things up halfway through the second with assists from Hannah Bilka and Megan Keller, but that’s where the scoring stopped for the Fleet. Two more goals in the second period from Montreal sealed the victory. Emma Söderberg saw 31 shots in net and made 28 saves on the night for Boston.

The Frost has accrued 12 points so far this season and trail the first place Montreal Victoire by just one point. Minnesota’s last time on the ice was played against the league-leading Victoire and resulted in a 3-2 loss. Minnesota scored first to take a 1-0 lead in the first period after Britta Curl-Salemme put the puck past Ann-Renée Desbiens after receiving assists from Claire Thompson and Taylor Heise. Montreal scored the next two goals before Brooke McQuigge evened the score three minutes into the second period. Liz Schepers and Claire Butorac assisted on McQuigge’s goal, but the tie was short-lived as Montreal’s game winning goal went in just two minutes later. The third period was scoreless allowing Montreal to bump Minnesota down to second place in the standings.
Thursday’s game will mark the first time that Boston and Minnesota have met this season. Boston is in desperate need of a win to move out of last place.
