Tottenham Hotspur will seek to use a midweek win over Manchester City as its springboard hosting Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Aston Villa’s 11-game undefeated streak is no more, but Unai Emery’s side can still extend their fanciful form in the Premier League when they return to action visiting Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. However, Spurs could be the team to hand Villa its first league loss since August after knocking Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup to celebrate a fifth straight home win in midweek. Ange Postecoglou has come in for some criticism this season as the north Londoners sit eighth in the table having lost three of their last six league games, hoping to bounce back from defeat at Crystal Palace one week ago.

Postecoglou will have undoubtedly renewed some faith with certain fans after ousting a second-string City out of the League Cup on Wednesday.
Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr came to Spurs’ aid and converted the two finishes to send City packing, albeit against a team lacking a good number of Pep Guardiola’s most valued assets:
Tottenham raved to a 4-0 win at Villa Park the last time these teams met in March, though Villa had won the previous three meetings between these clubs leading up to that.
It didn’t help that Villa captain John McGinn saw red in that last encounter, however, and the Scot will hope to keep a lid on his temper this time around.
Spurs were saddened to see star defender Mick van de Ven come off against City with a hamstring injury, which will keep the Dutchman out of contention on Sunday.
Wilson Odobert is also missing for the hosts, though Postecoglou could be boosted by the returns of captain Son Heung-Min and full-back Djed Spence.
