Maverick McNealy and Vince Whaley share the lead atop a crowded leaderboard at St. Simons Island, Georgia
Vince Whaley and Daniel Berger made the biggest moves on Saturday at The RSM Classic at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia, firing third-round 63s to put themselves in contention entering Sunday’s final round. But it is a crowded leaderboard, with 11 players within four shots of the lead on the Seaside Course. Berger’s seven-under-par round moved him into a tie for third with Mackenzie Hughes, Michael Thorbjornsen and Patrick Fishburn, with Berger putting himself into position to earn full PGA Tour status for next year after entering the tournament outside the top 125 on the FedExCup Fall points list.

The RSM Classic is the final event on the PGA Tour Fall schedule, the last opportunity for players to lock in their status for 2025. With the top 50 set at the Tour Championship nearly three months ago, the eight-event autumn swing allows players outside that group to continue to accumulate points. Players in positions 51-60 at the end of Sunday not only earn full Tour status but also entry into two of the early season Signature events with expanded prize pools.
Players finishing between 61st and 125th earn PGA Tour cards for 2025 and those coming in 126th through 150th receive provisional status on the Tour next year.
Amateur Luke Clanton is tied with Lee Hodges for seventh place, three shots off the lead, with Nico Echavarria and Michael Kim standing in a tie for ninth at 10-under-par, four shots back. The winner earns $1.44 million from the tournament’s $8 million purse.
