David Lipsky’s 65 sets the pace entering Friday’s 2nd round as the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup fall schedule opens
David Lipsky, a veteran still in search of his first PGA Tour victory, rolled to a first-round 65 on Thursday in the first round of the Procore Championship at the Silverado Resort North Course in Napa, California. Lipsky entered Friday’s second round one shot ahead of Martin Laird and Patton Kizzire, with Mark Hubbard, Kevin Dougherty, Wilson Furr and Joel Dahmen all two shots behind. The tournament is the first of eight on the FedEx Cup fall schedule, where players outside the top 70 in the season-ending FedEx Cup standings can compete for tour cards. Players outside the top 50 are playing for entry to a pair of signature events in 2025.

Lipsky turned pro in 2011 and joined the PGA Tour in 2022 and comes into the fall in 165th place on the FedEx Cup list. The 70 players who made the FedEx Cup playoffs all have tour status for next year, but those who finish 51st through 70th are fighting for spots in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational signature events in 2025.
Finishing in the top 125 at the end of the fall guarantees full tour status for next year, while those between 126th and 150th earn conditional status and can improve on that at Q School.
Defending champion Sahith Theegala, who finished third in the standings, opened with a three-under-par 69 on Thursday. The winner earns 500 points and a $1.02 million cut of the tournament’s $6 million purse.
