The PGA Tour’s busy summer season continues this week as players make their way to the Genesis Scottish Open beginning on Thursday. The Open Championship is just two weeks away, so this is acting as a final tune-up. This week’s winner will walk away with $1.62 million of the $9 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points. Among them is World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who will make his first start since a devastating loss at the 2024 U.S. Open last month. However, history is on his side. Last year, he birdied the final two holes on Sunday at the Renaissance Club to win his first event of 2023, making him the defending champion this week. He edged out Robert MacIntyre for the win, hitting an iconic 2-iron on the 72nd hole to seal the deal.

Expect English golfer Tommy Fleetwood to have a good weekend. He hasn’t been able to get over the hump of winning on U.S. soil yet, so it seems fitting his first PGA Tour win would come across the pond. In two previous appearances at the Scottish Open, the Englishman has finished T-4 (2022) and T-6 (2023).
Currently in the lead at 12 under par is Ludvig Åberg with Antoine Rozner in second place at 11 under par and Im Sung-jae and Matteo Manassero tied for third place at 10 under par. McIlroy is within striking distance, though, sitting at tied for seventh place at eight under par. Fleetwood is tied for 18th at six under par, setting up for an exciting weekend of golf ahead.
