It is essentially the last eight PGA Tour cards that are up for grabs, with the players in positions No. 26-30 separated by less than nine points. For some perspective on the size of the gap, a solo 52nd finish at the event is worth 8.5 points. Matt McCarty, No. 1 on the points list, has already clinched the top spot and is playing the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship this week after earning Tour membership with three victories this season.
The players in 59th place and lower entering the Tour Championship must win to have a chance to move up. All of the players in the top 75 are fully exempt for the Korn Ferry Tour next year, with those finishing 31st through 60th advancing to the final stage at the PGA Tour Q-School. The rest of the field begins in the second phase.
Players are competing for the $270,000 share of the $1.5 million prize pool and the 600 points for winning the event. The French Lick Resort is a new venue for the event after being played the last five years at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Indiana.
