With just two regular season games remaining, the Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars will look to finish strong.
On Sunday night, the Chicago Red Stars will travel to take on the Washington Spirit as the NWSL nears the end of the regular season. Chicago currently sits in sixth place in the NWSL standings with 32 points while Washington is in third place with 50 points, just seven points out of first place. Chicago has won three of its last five NWSL matches with its most recent match being a 2-0 loss to NJ/NY Gotham. In the loss, Lynn Williams scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute from a penalty kick to give Gotham a 1-0 lead. Esther González added the second goal in the 90+8th minute. On the season, Mallory Swanson leads the Chicago squad with seven goals and four assists. Ally Schlegel is second on the team with six goals.

The Spirit are led by Trinity Rodman and Ouleymata Sarr, each with eight goals this season. Midfielder Croix Bethune has been doing her job of supporting offensive play exceptionally well this season and is leading the team with 10 assists. The latest match for Washington was a 4-1 win over Racing Louisville last week. Makenna Morris finished the game with a brace, scoring her first goal in the 36th minute and the second in the 43rd. Ashley Hatch added the third goal of the match in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. In extended time, Lena Silano added a fourth goal after subbing in for Morris.
The last match between the two squads was back in July in the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup. Chicago won the match in a 3-2 battle. Jenna Bike started the scoring for Chicago with a goal just before halftime. Andi Sullivan tied the game for the Spirit in the 55th minute. In the 60th minute, Jamesse Joseph earned the lead back for Chicago. Silano tied the game in the 82nd minute but the Spirit were unable to maintain control and Sarah Griffith scored the final goal in the 89th minute.
The NWSL playoffs will start on November 8th with the top eight teams facing off. The championship game will take place on Saturday, November 23rd at CPKS Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
