The first half was scoreless, Kansas City took a 1-0 lead shortly after the break and the Royals could not find the equalizer. The Wave are just ahead of the Royals in the NWSL standings with 16 points collected from a record of 3-7-9. Tonight’s match will be the first played since San Diego great, and USWNT star, Alex Morgan concluded her playing career. Morgan announced her retirement a little over a week ago and played her last game on Sunday against the North Carlonia Courage which resulted in an unfortunate 4-1 loss in her farewell match. Morgan is expecting her second child with husband Servando Carrasco which ultimately led to the 35-year-old’s decision to hang up her boots. The Wave will also be without Kailen Sheridan who was red carded against the Courage after VAR determined she denied Bianca St-Georges a goal-scoring opportunity.
The last time the Royals and Wave met was in early August and the game resulted in a 2-0 win for San Diego. Tune in Saturday night to see which of these two teams are able to bounce back after last week’s losses.
