Despite both sides being on the outside looking in on the playoff bubble, Racing Louisville FC and Angel City FC come into tonight’s match with momentum as the playoff push continues with the end of the regular season in sight. Racing took two of three matches in the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup but has since dropped two of its last three since returning to league play while Angel City has won six of its last eight across all competitions and sits four points shy of Bay FC for the eighth and final playoff seed with a game in hand.

In June Racing Louisville erased an early 2-0 deficit behind goals from Taylor Flint and Carson Pickett to pull level in the 64th minute before veteran Sydney Leroux nailed the game-winner in the game’s final minutes. Leroux, a World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist has played for 11 seasons in the NWSL and has 47 career goals including six this season.
Louisville will feature a vastly different lineup in this match compared to the last time it faced Angel City as Pickett, along with Jaelin Howell and Reilyn Turner, have all been traded out of the Derby City. The newly acquired Ethany Balcer tallied an assist in her first match since being arriving via trade from Seattle where she netted 33 goals in five seasons.
Angel City is unbeaten in its first two visits to Louisville winning 3-2 behind goals from Christen Press and a pair from former Racing midfielder Savannah McCaskill in 2022 and held on for a 1-1 draw in 2023.
