The final game of the regular season for the North Carolina Courage and the Washington Spirit will take place Saturday night.
On Saturday night, the North Carolina Courage will host the Washington Spirit at WakeMed Soccer Park for the final regular season game of NWSL play. The Courage is currently in fifth place with a record of 12-3-10 for a total of 39 points. Even with a win, the team will not be able to move up any further as the next closest team is the Kansas City Current with 52 points. Last weekend, the team took to the pitch against Bay FC and suffered a tough 1-0 loss. The game remained scoreless until the 83rd minute when Abby Dahlkemper was able to beat Casey Murphy in net with the winning goal. Bay FC outshot the Courage 13-8 and North Carolina was only able to put two on frame in the loss.

The Washington Spirit is currently in a tie for second place with Gotham FC as both teams have 53 points on the season. The Spirit is 17-2-6 overall and can clinch second place with a win on Saturday and a loss or draw from Gotham. The team has won two matches in a row with the most recent being a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Red Stars. Heather Stainbrook and Makenna Morris each scored in the win to add another three points to the team’s tally. Rosemonde Kouass was issued a red card after an altercation with Chicago’s Ludmila. She received an automatic one-match suspension, but was also issued an additional one-match suspension for “Major Game Misconduct” as per the League Operations Manual. Kouass will be out for Saturday’s game as well as the quarterfinal match of playoffs.
