Jane Campbell and the Houston Dash will look to move out of last place with an upset over the Chicago Red Stars in NWSL action on Friday night.
On Friday night, SeatGeek Stadium will welcome the home side Chicago Red Stars and the visiting Houston Dash for an NWSL matchup as the teams look to move up in the standings. The Dash is currently in last place with a record of 4-5-13 for a total of 17 points; just one point behind the Utah Royals. The team’s most recent game was played last weekend at home against the Orlando Pride and it suffered a tough 3-1 loss. While the score was just 1-0 in Orlando’s favor going into the break, the Pride quickly scored out of the locker room to extend its lead to two. Yūki Nagasato cut that lead in half two minutes later, but the Dash was unable to sneak the ball past McKinley Crone. Brazilian great, Marta added insult to injury just before the final whistle with the Pride’s third goal.

The Red Stars are sitting in sixth place in the standings, but only hold a one point lead over the Portland Thorns and Bay FC. Chicago is currently 9-2-11 which gives the club 29 points and trails North Carolina who are six points ahead in the standings. While a win on Friday night will not move the club above the Courage, it will at least provide a bit of separation with the teams below. The Red Stars’ most recent match was played against the Courage on Sunday and resulted in a 3-1 defeat. The team’s lone goal was scored by Ludmila in the 68th minute, but North Carolina was already leading 3-0 at that point. Despite finishing the game with 10 shots per side, Chicago was only able to put three on frame and North Carolina goalkeeper Casey Murphy made easy work of saving those to help her team send Chicago home empty-handed.
When Chicago and Houston met back in July, the Red Stars earned a 1-0 win with the lone goal of the match being scored by USWNT great Mallory Swanson shortly before she left to take part in the Paris Olympics where the United States won gold.
