With just two regular season games remaining, Angel City FC and the Utah Royals will look to finish the season strong with a win.
With two games remaining in the regular season, Utah and Angel City are on the outside looking in. Utah is currently in 10th place with 24 points and Angel City is in 11th place with 23 points. The eighth and final playoff spot is owned by Louisville with 28 points. If one of these two teams is able to win both of their final games and Louisville loses its one remaining game, the winner of those two games would move into that final playoff spot. Angel City, however, has only one win in the last five matches, with the latest game being a 1-1 draw against NC Courage, so it is unlikely that fans will see the club in playoffs this year.

In a game that was scoreless for the first 90 minutes, the draw was broken by Christen Press scoring with a goal in the 90+7th minute with an assist from Katie Zelem for Angel City FC. Olivia Wingate scored the tying goal three minutes later. Angel City FC is led by Claire Emslie with seven goals and Sydney Leroux with six goals. Alyssa Thompson leads the team with seven assists.
Utah is on a three game winning streak with the latest game resulting in a 3-0 win over the Seattle Reign. In the win, Cloé Lacasse scored all three goals, netting the first hat trick of the season and the first in the Utah Royals’ program. The final goal was assisted by Claudia Zornoza. Cloe Lacasse now leads the team in goals with four this season.
The last match between the two squads was back in May where Angel City earned a 2-1 win. Angel City jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 29th minute from Sydney Leroux and a 40th minute penalty kick by Claire Emslie. Dana Foederer scored for the Royals, but the team was unable to find the equalizer.
The NWSL playoffs will start on November 8th with the top eight teams facing off. The championship game will take place on Saturday, November 23rd at CPKS Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
