NHL preseason continues with the Washington Capitals taking on the Boston Bruins today.
The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins take the ice for their second preseason game of the season while trying to pick up their first win. Last season both teams ended their seasons in the playoffs with Washington earning the eighth seed and Boston having home ice in the first round as the fourth seed. Boston made it to the second round last season before the eventual Stanley Cup Champions took them down in six games. They started off the preseason with a loss as they look to continue knocking off the rust heading into the 2024-2025 season. For Washington, it looks to improve on an eighth place finish in Alex Ovechkin’s 20th season in the NHL and make another run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The legendary left-wing has scored 30 or more goals in 18 of his 20 seasons and 60 or more points in 17 of those seasons as one of the most decorated stars of this generation. He hasn’t led Washington to the Stanley Cup Finals since 2018 where Ovechkin and the team were able to hoist the cup for the first time in franchise history.
For Boston three-time All-Star David Pastrnak is back after leading the team in goals for three straight seasons and points in the last two. He finished fifth in the league in points and seventh in goals with 110 points and 47 goals. He and team captain Brad Marchand combine to make one of the best duos on the ice filling the left and right wings.
Heading into this season Boston has the 12th best odds (+2200) to win the Stanley Cup for the seventh time in the storied history of the franchise. That journey starts with preseason games like today against Washington.
